Article in 3D artist magazine

Written by admin
January 15th, 2010

Last year 3D Artist magazine in England approached me for an interview and to use some of my fantasy images in an article which is always a nice thing when it happens. Good for the ego and anyone in a creative environment will have a little bit of that in them :-) I have a tiny, almost invisible bit but it likes to be noticed now and again, then it goes away for a while.

The mag is a very good one if 3D and creative graphics are your thing so I was naturally pretty tickled to be in it and I’d like to thank Duncan, the editor, for his interest in my work.

In Australia the magazine will take a bit longer to hit the streets than in the UK but it should be around and the cover is below so when you see it out there, you’ll know which one it is.

The official 3D Artist site is here.

Fun mum and daughter shoot with Belinda and Shannon

Written by admin
November 23rd, 2009

Things have been so hectic recently that I’ve not had a moment to do any blog updates so this is the first one in a while.

Last week Belinda and her 14 year old daughter, Shannon, came in for a fun shoot. We shot a couple of fantasy shots with Shannon playing ‘rock chick’ using a digitally added stage.

Belinda did a few elegant evening wear shots and they did a couple of fun ones together.

Here’s some of the shots. Thanks to Belinda and Shannon for allowing me to use their shots here.

New mermaid shot

This shot took a while to finish as I’ve been so busy recently but here it is. As with all the mermaid shots, the only thing that’s real is Angela, the rest is rendered in 3D.

Choices for prints

Once a client has chosen their shots we retouch them and then provide a range of options for each shot so the client to select their final prints.

Recently I added a couple of softer options to the group so I thought I’d show an example here. This shot is from a recent shoot with Jennifer. There is also a non standard option in this gallery as Jennifer had a few sample images she liked so the last option was done specifically for Jen.

There are so many things that can be done to a photo in post production that it’s simply impossible to offer all options ‘out of the box’ as it were. If you see a finish you like, the best thing is to mention it to us to see if it’s something we can do for you.

Anyway, here’s the standard range of options along with the extra alternative done for Jen.

New greek style digital set

While shooting Ang for the recent mermaid shots I shot her in this pose and when my Greek mermaid set wasn’t quite working with the mermaid I tried this shot of Ang and the two seemed to work pretty well.

Everything but Angela is CGI (was very pleased with my 3D digital ivy!!). The greek look is now an option for any fantasy, artistic or fashion shoots.

More mermaids

Just about there with the mermaid shots. This is the latest one. We now have quite a few options for mermaid fantasy shots. I may do one underwater version but it depends on time really and if any clients like the idea.

Again Angela is the only real thing in the shot, the rest is CGI. I’ve seen these images so much now that I can’t tell if they look real, illustrative, stylized or what :-) I’m reality blind I think.

Thanks to Angela for helping me out yet again with my folio work  on this project.

If you would like to be in one of these shots then for $350 you can be photographed in the studio and have a print up to 20 x 30 inch, so if you like the idea of being in a mermaid fantasy shot, get in touch (Karen: 0402 230669, Dean: 0438 775299, dean@deanagar.com.au).

If you wish to combine an art shoot or do 2 or more fantasy shots, let us know what you would like to do and we’ll give you a quote.

Mermaid fantasy image

September 2nd, 2009

I’ve been wanting to do a mermaid image for some time and the ever increasing work I’ve been doing in 3D CG backdrops led to the image below.

We will have a range of options on mermaid shots, this been the first one to be completed. The rest are being worked on and will be finished in the next week.

My fave collaborator, Angela, did the honors for the modelling and I’m extremely happy with the final result as Ang nailed the feel I wanted in the pose (as she usually does).

New artistic shot using a digital set

Written by admin
August 31st, 2009

As I expand the artistic folio and fantasy folios the ideas for digitally created sets keep coming. The shot of Alinta on our chaise that was taken in the studio was digitally combined with a 3D CG background that was created in Cinema 4D software.

I think the results are getting more seamless which allows me to create backdrops and environments for shots that would be too expensive and difficult to build any other way.

If you want to incorporate a shot like this into your artistic shoot, let us know. I am working on a ’special options’ element to the print price list to include these new digital backdrops.
