This shoot was for the love of my life and business partner, Karen who has been styling, set designing and helping to pose, the women, men and couples at our studio since 2008. At 53 (in 2012) and after a year out with breast cancer, Karen has decided it is her turn to get in front of the camera and have some beautiful photos for her and the family. This goes to show that natural beauty and grace can be found in every woman, no matter her age. She has found the process and the finished shots to be a great confidence boost and a very liberating experience.
If you wish to book a session with us please call Karen on: 0402 230669 or email here.
We also filmed some of the day and made a short film which is below.
This week we photographed one of our wonderful makeup artists, Monique Torres from Zalique Makeup. We had been wanting to get Monique in front of the camera for the past 18 months but she was a bit too nervous. We managed to convince her to come in for a few portraits and we had an amazing session with her. Even though she actively avoided being on the other side of the camera, she was a natural. She has a grace and poise which made our job so easy and the results, amazing.
Now Monique knows first hand what a session is like as she is often asked by our clients. She had such a great time that she is planning a trip back with her husband for a romantic couples session.
If you are searching for the right Brisbane photographer to capture your personality and spirit then please get in touch. We would love to have the opportunity to give you amazing photographs that you never thought were possible. Monique may even end up being your makeup artist for your session.
Please call Karen on 0402 230 669 if you would like to discuss your own personally designed photography session.
One question that we are asked a lot is “do we do glamour photography sessions of fuller figures, or women over 30 years of age?” A lot of ladies assume that we only photograph size 8, 20yr old models but that is very far from the fact. We photograph all shapes, sizes and ages.
For this reason we have decided to put together an “experience” video featuring the lovely Rebecca. Rebecca is a mother of 2 young men in their early 20’s, she is curvy and turning 40 this year and I believe, is a perfect representation of many other mums out there wanting something special, and to feel good about themselves after years of being a “mum” and carer for the family.
One of the items on her bucket list was a glamour session, so here it is. She very kindly agreed to allow us to film the session and to record her thoughts on women, figures and the session itself.
Portrait Photography – A little bit of history
Portrait photography or portraiture is photography of a person or group of people that displays the expression, personality, and mood of the subject. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is usually the person’s face, although the entire body and the background or context may be included.
The relatively low cost of the daguerreotype in the middle of the 19th century and the reduced sitting time for the subject, though still much longer than now, led to a general rise in the popularity of portrait photography over painted portraiture. The style of these early works reflected the technical challenges associated with long exposure times and the painterly aesthetic of the time. Subjects were generally seated against plain backgrounds and lit with the soft light of an overhead window and whatever else could be reflected with mirrors. Advances in photographic equipment and techniques developed, and gave photographers the ability to capture images with shorter exposure times and the making of portraits outside the studio.
Portrait photography today – with Dean & Karen Agar
Modern portrait photography is so very very exciting. We have at our disposal the most amazing equipment, sets, props and styling to make each image individual and dynamic.
Feven’s friend Josh, purchased her a glamour portrait photography session with us as a gift, and today we had the pleasure of meeting them both and photographing Feven.
Feven is originally from Africa but she has lived most of her life in Australia, and it was a real treat for us to be able to photograph her and chat with the couple throughout the session. She bought in some great jewellery and fabrics as she wanted to show her African heritage along with a few glamour images.
We hope that you enjoy the results of this session with Feven. If you would like information on a session with us please contact Karen on 0402 230 669 or email on this link.
Robyn’s mum purchased her a Sexy Sunday glamour session for Christmas which was exactly what Robyn had been wanting for a long time. Robyn had a great time with us today and loves her final images.
Hair and makeup was by the wonderful Carla Sakrzewski.
Our Sexy Sunday glamour photography sessions make a fantastic gift as they are affordable and a great experience. More details on our Sexy Sunday sessions can be found on this link.
17 year old Rani came to us this week to kick start her modelling portfolio with a model folio photography session. Her mum chose us because she loved our work, but also, because we have a lot of experience photographing first time models.
There are several reasons to choose us for your model/fashion photography session.
The first of course, is that you love our work, but a very important reason is that the models, and especially the young, inexperienced girls feel safe and comfortable with us. Dean and I (Karen) are a team and I am always there through the session. I will help with the posing, dressing and styling and Dean is the talent on the camera and editing. We find this works very well for us.
We take the time needed to get the image as perfect as possible and we will help with styling and posing meaning that first timers are not left floundering, wondering what to do. For the experienced models wanting to update their portfolio, we will let you “do your own thing” but we will fine tune and perfect your pose to avoid those images which are great, but, if only the hand was not there . . . . We won’t just click off a thousand images and hope one looks great. We will work on one and perfect it so we know it looks great.
For the beginners, we guide every step and the young model will definitely learn some basics during a session with us. This means that if she does find a model job down the track, that she will know some basics on etiquette and posing, as not all photographers take the time we do in a session and most will expect the model to pose and style themselves. So, not only will the model come out of a session with us with some great images, but the information she will gain will be like a mini workshop and will push her to work harder and know what to focus on for this career path.
Below is a range of photos from our fashion photography / model folio section.
We photograph models and actors of all ages. If you would like information on a session with us please contact Karen on 0402 230 669 or email on this link.
This was a fun glamour photography session for Cecilia Arendsen from Brisbane. Cec’s hair started out beautifully neat and smooth in the soft natural light portrait with the flowers, but after a bit of water we achieved a very cool raggy look which we loved in the black & white images.

Dean and I have spent the last week watching a series of photography workshops on lighting and photography techniques by the amazing Felix Kunze and Sue Bryce. It inspired us to purchase some new props, make up some canvas backdrops & look at a new way of lighting our sessions.
We loved the new lighting techniques in the video so much that we decided to use the new technique when we photographed Amie & we love the results. It is so soft and particularly fantastic for women. No more retouching harsh lighting. We have been using natural light along with flash for a lot of our sessions, but this new lighting style involves diffusing flash lighting to emulate soft sunlight. It gives us a lot more control and consistency and gives us that soft natural light look even on the cloudiest of days or at night. Fantastic!
We have photographed Amie 4 times before this and always enjoy a session with her. We hope that you enjoy these images. I think you will be seeing this style a lot more in the future from us.

Kristy Lee had been approached by a modelling agency on the Gold Coast as they loved her look. Her first port of call was to us for a model folio and we had a fantastic session with her.
Kristy Lee looks fantastic and she was great to photograph. We hear that she has already been put forward for some castings so that is great news.

This year we decided to enter our first APPA awards (Australian Professional Photography Awards), so we were very pleased to learn that we were awarded two silvers for these two shots.
The news that we’d won an award came on the day Karen and I got married, so it served as a very nice wedding gift for both of us.The first image we took of Gabrielle early this year, and the second was of baby Harrison.Getting an award for baby Harrison was particularly exciting as it was only our second newborn shoot, so it’s good to know it was well received.
